While working towards our degrees at UCI, Phi Gamma Delta offers many different opportunities to give back to UCI, Irvine, Orange County, Southern California, and Worldwide communities. In the recent past, FIJI at UCI has had the most community service hours of any fraternity on campus. We encourage every brother to log community service hours every quarter and our philanthropy chairman’s job is to supply the chapter with ample opportunities to give back. Below are some of the annual philanthropy opportunities that we have created:
FIJI Irvine Fun Run: A Saturday morning filled with fun as students, Greek members, alumni, parents, and children come together on ring road to fight against cancer. Last year we raised over $3,000 with 100% of the DONATIONS going to the AYA foundation.
FIJI Islander Week: A competition between sororities and their FIJI coaches as they battle it out in crazy games to raise money for Red Cross, last year we raised over $5000 for the Japan Tsunami Relief and finished the week off with our unique and one of a kind top notch Lifeguard Party-top notch! One of our gracious graduate brothers donated an additional $5,000 in our name, bringing us to a grand total of over $10,000 for the Red Cross. Not bad for a week’s work.
FIJI Lifeguard: The gentlemen of Phi Gamma Delta are excited and proud to announce FIJI Lifeguard as our major philanthropic weeklong event for 2015. This year, the Iota Chi chapter of Phi Gamma Delta will be supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the leader in the fight against suicide. They fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Suicide is currently the third leading cause of death among young people age 15 to 24. We are passionate about raising money and awareness for an organization that is actively working in our community for a cause that our chapter has a personal and deep interest in.
